At the library of the DOMUS LETTERATURA in Italy, which forms part of the RUC Art Residency complex, we foster a dialogue between the written word and the visual arts. AUDIOTECA is an original, long-term artistic and research project. It is not merely a digital archive of voices, but an interdisciplinary experiment in which we explore the relationship between an individual’s identity and the text that has moved them.

We invite carefully selected individuals to take part in this process  – people whose sensibilities help to shape the contemporary art landscape.

The task we are setting you, whilst it may seem simple at first glance, requires time and courage. We ask you to choose a passage from a text that is particularly close to your heart and to read it aloud. It may be a passage from a work of prose, poetry or an essay. The project allows for complete freedom and its essence lies in the very act of choice and your unique vocal interpretation. These will form the subject of our research into identity and emotion in the reception of literature.

Technical Instructions

Capture your voice in its natural, authentic state. There is no need for a professional studio; a smartphone and a moment of silence are all that is required.

Find the impulse

Choose a text fragment (a poem, an essay excerpt, or a sentence from a novel) that speaks to you most powerfully. It can be drawn from our library shelves or your personal collection.

Lend your voice

Use any voice recorder app on your phone. Record your reading in the quiet of a room, a garden, or the library. Authenticity is paramount. The natural atmosphere of the recording is an integral part of the artwork.

Capture the image

Take a photograph of the book cover from which your chosen fragment is taken.

Send your material

Email both files (the audio recording and the cover photo) to: office@misztal-v-blechinger.com with the subject line AUDIOTEKA. Please include in your email your full name. The author and title of the chosen piece. A note specifying whether you consent to have your name credited alongside the recording, or if you prefer to remain anonymous.

Research & Publication

AUDIOTEKA is a long-term, process-oriented endeavor that evolves organically through chance discoveries born from the clash and collaboration of distinct artistic personalities.

The gathered material will shape the sonic soul of Domus Letteratura, where a permanent QR code in the physical library allows visitors to experience the collection. Furthermore, it will serve as the foundation for deep critical analysis. As long-time contributors to the contemporary art magazine FORMAT (whose archival and current issues form part of our library), we pledge to publish and summarize the findings of this research within the professional art press.
